Since we've been thrown into the world of cancer, we have been subjected to statistic after statistic stating how terrible the odds are of beating most forms of cancer. There's no pretty way to put it: even with as much research as has already been conducted, cancer is still a top cause of death. Of the children who survive cancer, most of them will have long-term side-effects lasting well into their adult years.
I never thought my son would be facing such odds. It's startling. Even with Mason doing fantastically well, the odds are still there. And when I hear of other children who are fighting a losing battle, I cringe and have to take a moment to compose myself. It shouldn't be like this. While we can't change anything overnight, we can definitely do something to increase the odds for everybody. So....
This summer, we will be joining the the 2011 Salt Lake City CureSearch Walk, and we want YOU to join us in walking for Mason!
The CureSearch organization supports cancer research done by the Children's Oncology Group, which Primary Children's Oncology belongs to. Mason has already had direct benefits from this research, and so have many other children in Utah, because they were provided with the most advanced treatment.
About the Walk:
The CureSearch Walk is an annual event that honors children who have been affected by cancer. It is a 1.5 to 2.5 mile walk, to raise funds for childhood cancer research. Funds are raised by registration fees, and by donations raised by participants of the teams.
The walk will take place at Liberty Park, on July 9th, 2011, from 9 am to 12 pm. Check in begins at 8 am.
It is designed to be family-friendly, so kids, strollers, and wheelchairs are all welcome!
Please, please, please consider this. We would love for you to join our team and be there with us as we walk for a cure. To join Mason's team, all you have to do is log into our team page by clicking the link, and sign up. Our team is: Mase's Brain Train. :) Registration is only $10 for anyone over the age of 16, and anyone under 16 is free. Also, there may be cool shirts involved, so stay tuned!
And if you can't make it but still want to donate, please do! Honestly, any amount helps. It ALL adds up. There's even the nifty title of: "Virtual Walker" you get to hold. :)
Finally, thank you so much for reading, considering, joining and/or donating. It means so much to us!
