Phew! That Was Easy.

So we went in for Mason's scope yesterday, and found out that it was actually a swallow study instead! Our day was instantly better, especially since Mason loves doing the swallow studies. I'm glad they decided to let him do this instead, since it is just as effective as the scope (their own words), and not even half as traumatizing (for both me and Mason).

The results are that his vocal chords are doing much better! They tested him all the way down to un-thickened liquids, and he was swallowing just fine. They said he is cleared for un-thickened liquids now, as long as he still uses a straw. I wish you could have seen the smile on his face when I told him that. He was SO happy!

The other reason they did the test was to see if they can start giving him his weekly Vincristine (chemo) again. The test basically showed that since his vocal chords are working fine now, the Vincristine was most likely the cause of the problems. Since it is a medicine that he really needs, they are still going to put him back on it. In fact, they gave him a dose at the appointment yesterday. We just have to watch for the signs that he is aspirating again, and he'll be right back on thickened liquids, with Vincristine as the confirmed culprit.

We also went in before all this on Thursday to have his blood drawn, and his counts are getting low. His ANC is down at 600, and his other counts are pretty low too. He's definitely staying in the house for a while until they get a little higher.

Thanks so much for all your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes this week. They really helped!
